I bought this dvd thinking, "how could they ruin this great agatha christie classic? I have been a lover of Agatha Christie for as long as my addled brain can recall, with 'And Then There Were None' being my top pick for favorite mystery novel in the history of the genre.
From the moment I learned about this adaptation, to the final throat-tightening minutes of the last episode, my body was humming with excitement.
There were a few films and TV episodes loosely based on this- Agatha Christie's most recognizable work, but they bear no merit here.
Now, fans of Christie's classic 'locked-room' mystery have been gifted a faithful adaptation to drool over. Keeping the 's time period, but gorgeously filmed with modern camerawork and style, the story here is of ten strangers invited to a secluded island mansion by their mysterious host s.
Upon their arrival, they are each accused of murder in one way or another. Eventually, one by one, they start to die. Cut off from the mainland, stranded with a killer s , their numbers dwindling, the past for each begins to rear its ugly head.
BBC1 has generated something truly exquisite. Watching the three, one-hour-long episodes of 'And Then There Were None' was like a dream; I honestly don't remember blinking once, or even taking a single breath throughout my binge-watching.
It's that good. The suspense will keep you rapt, the mystery will keep you guessing, and the brilliant performances of a stellar cast will keep you wanting more.
When you find something you love, you want to share it with the world. My only question is: What are you waiting for?
What a great adaptation! This is by far the best of the bunch. I've only seen the version previously, I didn't bother with the others.
This version uses the book's ending rather than the play's version. When Agatha Christie wrote the stage version, she changed the ending at the behest of the producers because they wanted a happy ending.
The book's ending was considered too radical in for film. I agree! Christie wasn't only at the top of her game but also way ahead of her time when she wrote this.
Though minor changes such as changing the Nursery rhyme from "ten little Indians" to "Ten little Soldiers" don't bother me.
It was for the most part faithful to the book. The fact that they retained the original time period and the ending makes this one well worth seeing.
There are 3 one hour parts rather than two 90 minutes without commercials parts. I'm not going to give away the ending-but lets just say that the last ten minutes is really radical!!
The best filmed version of Agatha Christie's classic novel. The mood is dark with a constant sense of dread and suspense as 10 strangers invited to a remote island manor are murdered one by one as depicted in an ominous poem which hangs in every room.
Beautiful filmed and acted, this is probably one of the greatest murder mystery stories of all time. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.
This adaptation is amazing. I cannot praise this enough, from the actors to the set dressing I can find no flaw.
I can watch this again and again just enjoying the performances, the loactions A joy. As my title says, this is the only truely faithful adaptation of the book you can get on either the large or small screen.
In all the TV and film versions there has always, always been a survivour at the end. Usually the young female playing Miss Claythorne and sometimes the male lead as well.
Can't kill off Oliver Reed's Lombard. Dies at the end? Just not done. So this adaptation is, in my opinion, the best of the lot.
It finally brings Agatha Christie's book to screen how it was intended. Excellent version of the Agatha Christie novel.
This TV dramatisation sticks pretty close to the novel, although a few of the crimes committed by the protagonists have been changed from those of the original book, for some unknown reason.
The acting is generally very good. Charles Dance, in particular, delivers a powerful, mesmeric performance, where even the hooding of his eyes which at times look cold and reptilian makes the viewer wonder if he could perhaps be the elusive killer - or not?
Miranda Richardson is also excellent. Definitely recommended. I watched the episodes when they aired wayback in in the BBC channel.

I found out, by accident, that there would be an exhibition of 'And Then There Were None' and found interesting that it was a 3 episode mini series.
The cast is brilliant, they have a very intense screen chemistry and the aesthetics, over all, are very genuine to the era where the story is set.
The DVD comes with more than a few extras. Full marks to the BBC for an excellent adaptation of, probably, the best mystery novel of all time.
Its certainly the best selling at any rate with over million copies sold. As you would expect, the story is carefully honoured with only a few light contemporary touches.
A perfect balance. Great cast, great script, sold director. What more could you want? A must for all Christie fans but actually, despite its dark nature, a good entertaining watch for all.
Really nice with deep mystery. I like the way they fleshed out the characters and showed some connections.
