During dinner he mentioned the new book he was writing with Terry Pratchett, called "Good Omens". He described it as "an apocalyptic story with comedic overtones".

Several months later I was privileged to be at a small private reading of the book prior to its official release and ended up with a signed copy. I read it from cover to cover, many, many times and often wondered if a film would ever be made of it.

I was worried that no-one would do it justice. Tonight, I have just watched all six episodes and all I can say is "Wow". To make this as a film would have been a colossal mistake.

To make it as a six part series was the best decision ever made. The casting was inspirational. Adria Arjona as Anathema Device was brilliant. She matched the character perfectly.

As for the rest of the cast, no-one could have done better. The direction was awesome, the camera work was amazing and I loved how the the book's footnotes were worked into the script bit of a trademark of Mr Pratchett.

Whether or not you will enjoy "Good Omens" depends on your sense of humour. If it leans towards slapstick or visual you may not. If it leans towards finding humour in dark situations you probably will.

Anathema, Newton Pulsifer and Sergeant Shadwell the two last members of the Witchfinder Army , Madame Tracey a medium and Shadwell's neighbour , Adam and his gang, Aziraphale and Crowley gather at a military base near Lower Tadfield to stop the Horsemen from causing a nuclear war and ending the world.

Adam's friends capture War, Pollution, and Famine. Just as Adam's real father, the devil, seems set to come and force the end of the world, Adam twists everything so his human father shows up instead, and everything is restored.

In the aftermath of the prevented Apocalypse, Crowley and Aziraphale discuss their restored property and the possibility of a second Apocalypse between humanity and the combined forces of Heaven and Hell; Shadwell and Madame Tracey decide to get married and move into a bungalow together; Anathema receives a sequel to Agnes Nutter's prophecies but does not read it so as to not be bound by them; and Adam evades his grounding to go scrumping.

Gaiman and Pratchett had known each other since It was their own idea, not that of their publisher, to collaborate on a novel.

We were both living in England when we wrote it. At an educated guess, although neither of us ever counted, Terry probably wrote around 60, "raw" and I wrote 45, "raw" words of Good Omens , with, on the whole, Terry taking more of the plot with Adam and the Them in, and me doing more of the stuff that was slightly more tangential to the story, except that broke down pretty quickly and when we got towards the end we swapped characters so that we'd both written everyone by the time it was done, but then we also rewrote and footnoted each other's bits as we went along, and rolled up our sleeves to take the first draft to the second quite a lot of words , and, by the end of it, neither of us was entirely certain who had written what.

It was indeed plotted in long daily phone calls, and we would post floppy disks and this was back in when floppy disks really were pretty darn floppy back and forth.

I think this is an honest account of the process of writing Good Omens. It was fairly easy to keep track of because of the way we sent disks to one another, and because I was Keeper of the Official Master Copy I can say that I wrote a bit over two thirds of Good Omens.

However, we were on the phone to each other every day, at least once. If you have an idea during a brainstorming session with another guy, whose idea is it?

One guy goes and writes 2, words after thirty minutes on the phone, what exactly is the process that's happening?

I did most of the physical writing because:. Initially, I did most of Adam and the Them and Neil did most of the Four Horsemen, and everything else kind of got done by whoever — by the end, large sections were being done by a composite creature called Terryandneil, whoever was actually hitting the keys.

By agreement, I am allowed to say that Agnes Nutter, her life and death, was completely and utterly mine. And Neil proudly claims responsibility for the maggots.

Neil's had a major influence on the opening scenes, me on the ending. In the end, it was this book done by two guys, who shared the money equally and did it for fun and wouldn't do it again for a big clock.

The United States edition of Good Omens had numerous alterations to the text. The most significant alteration to the main text is the addition of an extra word section just before the end, dealing with what happened to the character of Warlock, the American diplomat's son, who was swapped with Adam.

The Dutch translation of Good Omens contains a preface by the translator wherein he asserts that no extra footnotes were added to clarify matters that might be unclear to a modern audience — annotated with footnotes explaining omen and Crowley.

In the French version, some characters were given French-sounding names. Rampa books. In the Czech version of the book, the names of Agnes, Anathema, the Satanist nuns, Pepper and some minor characters were translated too.

She found working on the project a unique experience unlike anything else she had done. Anderson worked closely with actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant to design their modern-day looks.

Crowley's look reflected his transformation into human form from a serpent. The costume was modern, black, almost "goth like" in style, including a "snake head" belt buckle.

The modern-day character, Anathema Device, distantly related to prophetess Agnes Nutter, wears a Victorian "witchy look.

The designer found the material on Bond Street. It was "light, ethereal" and ephemeral. Hamm wore lilac contact lenses to emphasize the lilac in his "pearl gray" suit.

Anderson looked at nuns through the years and chose to use "peaky hats" which had a more witch-like feeling rather than an evil one.

Young, the Antichrist Adam's parents, were dressed in a nostalgic, "timeless and comforting" s look to represent their dependability. Anderson used her own parents' friends as inspiration.

His defining look is a jacket with elements of a uniform to represent his witchfinder army role. The cold opening, featuring a flashback through history in Episode 3, required costumes to represent the various historical periods, ranging from the Garden of Eden in BC up to Soho, London in During pre-production the six scripts were broken down to work out how the VFX could interact effectively with the story in each episode.

Larger animals were added in post-production. Sixty visual effects specialists, the most Milk had used on a single project, worked over a two-year period to create a wide range of effects.

Deguara and his crew created a wide range of effects including creatures, environments and fire. The site was built because Aziraphale's bookshop had to burn down with real fire, not just visual effects, something not possible to do in Soho.

To make Tennant's part look realistic and hide the rig, digitally created "glitch-type movements" were created. After locating a real Bentley, CG assets were created for the scenes on the street as well as inside the Bentley.

The Bentley that blew up in Episode 6 is real. The interior was removed and the exterior blown up. On the set, the filmed scenes are projected onto a screen.

The Hellhound was created by using, as a model for the Hellhound, a Great Dane dog with similar coloring to the small dog that was used later.

The original concept of Satan was a much more "hellish" version. However, Neil Gaiman wanted a more human form of the foot-tall creature, rather than including "hellfire" and over-the-top demonic action.

Good Omens features music written by Emmy winning composer, David Arnold, along with quite a few Queen songs throughout the series.
