The special effects department built a fake body frame that was supported by bars and dressed it like the actor.
A special padded platform was built inside the pants near the torn seam for the monkey to sit on. The seam in the back of the pants was torn and Velcro sewn on to hold it together.
A trainer placed Levi on the seat just before filming began and another trainer stood on the other side of the pants just off camera.
When that trainer called to the monkey, it pulled the seam open and the trainer would hold up different toys to get different reactions.
Levi was also the monkey who reacted to the fight in the alley by covering his mouth. The trainer put the monkey on its mark and stood off camera using hand signals to get the monkey to cover its mouth.

Jim Carry plays Bruce Nolan, a TV reporter usually stuck on the lighter side of the news, desperate to prove himself more or less TO himself that he can be taken seriously and do a good job in an anchor job.
This drive is what is slowly driving his beautiful girlfriend Grace Jennifer Aniston away. When the final straws are executed, he's quick to not laugh, but yell in the face of God, who in turn gives Bruce his powers.
Bruce then makes his life better for himself, until he's guilted into helping others, where he then continues to miss the point of his powers. Meanwhile, his constant excitement about his own life makes him more selfish, leaving his relationship on dangerous ground.
OK, that was kinda long. But as a plot, it works well. The step-by-step fashion in which we meet the challenges of being God is much better than clustering his problems together, and is able to hide itself fairly well.
As you probably know from hearing about this movie in the first place, Carrey's pitch-perfect acting stays in character which, luckily enough, is him , and controls and gives atmosphere to the movie scene by scene.
Whether they would admit it or not, the role was written or rewritten exclusively for Carrey. Without him, the humour would turn flat, as humour is half execution.
And the humour is very good in the first place. But without Carrey, it would kinda feel like a It's a Wonderful Life wannabe. Jennifer Aniston is great and, no matter what some may say, does not act like the only excuse for the third act.
At least, you don't think that when you see her. She gives a heartfelt performance and makes you forget you're watching a movie, she and Carrey feel very much like a real couple.
The movie feels ggooooodd see the movie to understand , has a very nice feeling, tackles the idea appropriately and better than expected and overall should never have been called slapped together just to save Carrey's career which wasn't goin' anywhere.

My Dear Poll Edit Cast Cast overview, first billed only: Jim Carrey Bruce attends a party celebrating his promotion. When Grace arrives, she finds Bruce kissing his co-anchor, Susan Ortega, after she forcefully comes on to him, and quickly leaves.
Bruce follows her, trying to use his powers to convince her to stay but cannot influence her free will. As Bruce looks around, he realizes that Buffalo has fallen into chaos due to his actions: parts of the city believe the Apocalypse is nearly upon Earth due to the meteor strikes, while a large number of people, all having prayed to win the multi-million dollar lottery and finding they all won reducing their prize to a few dollars, have started rioting in the streets.
Bruce returns to God, who explains that He cannot solve all the problems and Bruce must figure out a way himself. Bruce returns to his computer system at his home and goes about answering prayers as best he can.
As Bruce reads through them, he finds a prayer from Grace, wishing for his success and well-being. As Bruce reads it, another prayer from Grace arrives, this one wishing not to be in love with him anymore.
Bruce is stunned and walks alone on a highway, asking God to take back his powers and letting his fate be in his hands.
Bruce is suddenly hit by a truck and regains his consciousness in a white void. God appears, and He asks Bruce what he really wants; Bruce admits that he only wants to make sure Grace finds a man that would make her happy.
God agrees, and Bruce finds himself in the hospital, where doctors help him recover. Grace arrives, in which she and Bruce finally rekindle their relationship and later become engaged.
Following his recovery, Bruce returns the anchor position to Evan and goes back to his field reporting, but decides to take more pleasure in the simple stories.
The site's critical consensus reads, "Carrey is hilarious in the slapstick scenes, but Bruce Almighty gets bogged down in treacle".
Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3 out of 4 stars. He called the film "A charmer, the kind of movie where Bruce learns that while he may not ever make a very good God, the experience may indeed make him a better television newsman.
