I was hopeful because I've always been impressed with Anne Hathaway's acting chops. Honestly, the movie looked kind of cute so I dove in.
One Day follows a couple on their life's journey on one particular date in their lives over a period of 22 years.
Sometimes the couple is together, sometimes not, but it is very interesting to see their development from college graduation to full blown adulthood.
There are some very interesting side stories that keep the plot going. There are some characters in the film that either shouldn't have existed or needed some additional fleshing out.
Anne Hathaway is again very impressive in One Day with a sometimes mousy appearance while at other times looking stunning. Her overall performance is not as strong as in other films such as Devil Wears Prada, but frankly she just isn't asked to do as much.
The rest of the cast, while mostly no names, still does a very nice job. Jim Sturgess, who plays Hathaway's love interest, does a good job but I can't help feeling like a stronger actor would have played this role a little better and strengthened the overall movie.
For a sappy movie to see on Valentines Day, I really enjoyed it. The story is nice and fun throughout but I will say I hated the ending.
I'll probably give it a three out of five on Netflix. If you're looking for a sappy one, I'd recommend One Day. Chris S Super Reviewer.

But it unfolds as it must: A film cannot begin with two such attractive people and follow them for years into unhappiness and misery.
Every single joyous love story ends in death if you follow it long enough. The movies make life easier for us by usually stopping in the middle.
In a season of movies dumb and dumber, "One Day" has style, freshness, and witty bantering dialogue. Anne Hathaway is so attractive that she would be advised to sometimes play against type the eyeglasses she wears at the beginning are a bit over the top.
Jim Sturgess contributes the film's most versatile performance, one that depends on exact timing and control of the balance between pathos and buffoonery.
It's a decent night at the movies, if however a letdown after " An Education ," the previous film by Lone Scherfig.

Before leaving, he praises the stories in her diary and urges her to have them published. On 15 July , Emma and Dexter attend the wedding of mutual friends.
Dexter receives a job offer from Calum, his old roommate who has since become a multimillionaire. Emma tells Dexter she has received a book deal, and Dexter reveals that he and Sylvie are to be married, as he will soon be a father.
Dexter and Emma rekindle their friendship. By , Dexter is a devoted father to his daughter Jasmine, unaware Sylvie is having an affair with Calum, and Emma's book is published.
Two years pass and Dexter, divorced, visits Emma, now a successful author living in Paris. Hopeful after a previous drunken tryst with Emma following his divorce, Dexter learns she has a new French boyfriend, and departs.
Emma has second thoughts and chases after Dexter. They share a passionate kiss, and finally begin a relationship together. Emma and Dexter are engaged by and eventually marry.
On 15 July , Emma is hit by a truck while riding her bicycle, and dies. Inconsolable, Dexter returns to his self-destructive habits.
Over the years, he is comforted by Sylvie, by Jasmine, his widowed father, and even Ian, now happily married with children, who visits Dexter and tells him that Emma "lit up" around him, assuring Dexter that "she made you decent… and you made her so happy".
They race back to the flat, but encounter Dexter's parents on the street. Emma leaves, and Dexter tries to tell his parents she is just a friend, but chases after her to ask for her number.
They kiss passionately, and promise to see each other again. Film4 Productions is co-financing. Actress Anne Hathaway said she was clandestinely given the script as the film was set in the United Kingdom and director Scherfig was not looking for any American actresses for the part.
